If you want to watch some great movies that will satisfy your inner darkness- you have certainly come to the right place. Here you can find out everything that you need to know about the top gothic films to ever be made, and the ideas behind them.
Nosferatu
Vlad the Impaler was the inspiration for Dracula, but the idea of the sharp teeth actually came from a mammal- the rat. In the film Nosferatu, this is evident, as his teeth are distinctively rat shaped. In fact, he has a very close relationship with rats and the iconic stair scene is one of the biggest moments in horror to this day. Sure, it may be an older film, but you can’t deny the gothic inspiration and creativity that oozes from the screen when this movie is shown.
The Crow
Two words- Brandon Lee. Brandon Lee is one of the most iconic actors of his time, and unfortunately, this was the last movie he ever made. He died on-set, and the remaining scenes had to be filled in with computer animation. You can’t tell of course, but it’s tragic to say the least. This is one of the most gothic films out there as well, due to the soundtrack, the makeup of Eric Draven and the underlying theme of the movie.
Bride of Frankenstein
Who says that romance is dead? Even monsters need a little love sometimes, and that is what the Bride of Frankenstein is all about. An undead monster trying to find love in the arms of another un-dead monster. This is another tragic tale but the ideology behind the characters and the sheer creativity of the storyline is one of the many reasons why it’s still a huge hit to this day. This is a must-have for any gothic film collection.
